Deep in the heart of Sonoma with over 1000 feet of elevation lies Maus Vineyard, a western facing block on the volcanic bedrock of Moon Mountain. Here, the vines here appreciate the cool maritime influence and rolling evening fog. Farmed by the legendary Chuy Ordaz, who has over four decades of experience in both Sonoma and Napa and is known for his minimalist farming approach, Maus Vineyard is 100% organic.
2021 provided all the raw materials for creating one of the most memorable and sought-after vintages. Our approach to creating a wine that reflects the true essence of the terroir tends to be more of a hands-off approach. Our Maus Vineyard fruit was fermented entirely with native yeast and macerated on the skins for a total of 35 days. We aged this wine in 100% new French oak for 18 months.
On the nose, this wine showcases notes of black currant, pepper, leather, sage, and cedar, complemented by subtle toffee undertones. On the palate, this wine reveals excellent structure, boasting seamlessly integrated tannins with an even texture. As it evolves, it unfolds layers intertwined with distinctive red rock minerality. The finish lingers, echoing a harmonious blend of red and black fruits.
